OLYMPIC BOOKSTORE RETURN POLICY
PURPOSE
This policy establishes guidelines for returning textbooks and merchandise purchased from the Olympic College Bookstore and outlines the conditions under which returns will be accepted.
SCOPE
This policy applies to all students, faculty, and staff who purchase or rent items from the Olympic Bookstore.
TEXTBOOK RETURNS
Standard Returns
- Textbooks may be returned within the first two weeks of classes only.
- No returns will be accepted after this period, unless the student has dropped the class.
- Returns must be processed during regular bookstore business hours.
Dropped Classes
- If a student drops a class, they may return associated textbooks by the drop deadline for the current term, as outlined on the academic calendar for the campus.
- Students must provide proof of dropped class (e.g., a copy of updated schedule or drop-confirmation).
Textbook Rental Returns

- Rental returns follow a separate procedure with distinct deadlines and penalties.
Return Conditions
All textbook returns must:
- Be accompanied by the original receipt
- Be in the original condition as purchased
- Include all original components (access codes, CDs, supplemental materials)
- Show no signs of use beyond inspection (no writing, highlighting, or damage)
GENERAL MERCHANDISE RETURNS
Return Period
- All non-textbook merchandise may be returned within 14 days of purchase.
- Custom or special-order supplies are not returnable.
Documentation Requirements
- All returns must be accompanied by the original receipt.
- Returns without receipts will not be processed.
Refund Method
- Refunds will be issued to the original form of payment.
- Credit card purchases will be refunded to the same card.
- Cash purchases will be refunded in cash.
- Purchases made with financial aid will be credited back to the student's account.
Special Merchandise Categories
Electronics and Technology Items
- Electronics and technology items are final sale unless the item is manufacturer defective.
- Defective items may be returned within 14 days of receipt with all original packaging.
- All warranty claims must be processed through the manufacturer after the 14-day return window.
Clothing and Apparel
- Clothing and apparel may be returned within 14 days if unworn and with original tags attached.
- Clearance or sale items may be subject to different return restrictions as indicated at time of purchase.
Condition Requirements
- All merchandise must be returned in new, sellable, and unopened condition, with the original receipt.
- Items showing signs of use, damage, or with opened packaging may be denied for return or subject to a restocking fee.
RETURN PROCEDURES
- Return decisions made by bookstore staff are final, subject only to appeal to the Bookstore Director.
- Items purchased online through the Olympic College Bookstore website may be returned in-store.
- Online purchases must include the packing slip or order confirmation as proof of purchase.
- Shipping costs for returned items are non-refundable.
FINAL SALE ITEMS
The following items are considered final sale and cannot be returned:
- Custom course packets and materials
- Software with broken seals
- Digital downloads and access codes that have been activated
- Personal items (earbuds, undergarments, etc.)
- Clearance items marked as "Final Sale"
